Did
You Know?
- Kearns
hit a drive 300 yards, 1 inch in the 1980 Woodland Hills
Country Club Member Guest Tournament Long Drive Contest. This with
an old school persimmon driver and balata ball considered 50 yards
inferior to today's juiced club and ball combos.
- Summer of 2009: Shot
even par 71's at both the West and East courses of Braemar Country Club in Tarzana, CA,
a record 16 shots under his age
Lefty
Exploits
In
2000, Kearns injured his right forearm and was unable to hit full golf
shots without pain for six months. During that time off, he discovered
that he could swing and hit left-handed pain free. He purchased a set
of second-hand lefty clubs and embarked upon a new challenge.
In
the beginning, he could barely hit a drive 90 yards off the tee, but
after diligent practice became proficient from the other side. Eventually,
he could stroke a left handed tee shot 180 yards. Kearns eventually
shot a remarkable 98 at Lakeside Golf Club playing left handed (chipping
and putting right handed)!
